Tillandsia heteromorpha
check_circle In Stock
Tillandsia heteromorpha is a species native to the Andean regions of Peru and Bolivia, typically found growing on rocky cliffs and open scrublands at elevations between 1,000 and 3,000 metres. This highland species is named for its variability in form “heteromorpha” meaning “different shapes”, with leaf size, shape, and growth habit differing between populations. It usually forms a loose rosette or semi-upright cluster of narrow, silvery leaves with dense trichomes, well suited to dry, high-elevation environments. During flowering, it produces an erect inflorescence with pale bracts and violet to lavender tubular flowers.
Care Tips:
- Light: Requires bright light to partial direct sun; ideal for outdoor or bright windowsill conditions
- Water: Mist 2–3 times weekly or soak briefly; allow to dry completely between waterings
- Humidity: Tolerates low humidity well if ventilation is adequate
- Media: Mount on cork, wood, or rock; avoid containers with stagnant air
- Temperature: Prefers 14–26°C; protect from extreme heat and frost
- Fertiliser: Use diluted tillandsia fertiliser monthly during the growing season
