Tillandsia ionantha 'Rubra' is a cultivated form of the widely distributed species Tillandsia ionantha, selected for its particularly vivid blush during the flowering phase. Native to Central America and Mexico, the species thrives in warm, humid forests, clinging to tree branches in bright, airy environments. The 'Rubra' cultivar stands out for its rich ruby to crimson colouring across the upper foliage when approaching bloom, a hue more saturated than the standard form.

Distinctive features:

• Intense ruby-red to magenta blush across the upper leaves at bloom
• Produces vivid violet flowers from the centre of the rosette
• Compact and symmetrical, typically under 8 cm in height
• Covered in fine trichomes giving a frosted appearance when dry
• Forms dense clumps readily through rapid offsetting
