




Tillandsia leonamiana 'Leon'
Tillandsia leonamiana 'Leon' is a cultivar of a Brazilian species that produces a neat rosette of narrow, silvery-green leaves covered in fine trichomes. The foliage remains a consistent pale green to silver hue and is adapted to moderate light and humidity. During flowering, it develops a short inflorescence with red to reddish-pink bracts and tubular purple flowers.
Distinctive features:
- Silvery, narrow leaves with fine trichome coverage
- Produces red to reddish-pink bracts with purple flowers
- Compact rosette, generally 10–15 cm in height when flowering
- Adapted to humid environments with good air circulation
- Often distinguished from similar forms by its purple rather than white flowers
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers bright, filtered light; tolerates gentle direct sun
- Water: Mist 2–3 times per week or soak briefly; ensure drying within a few hours
- Humidity: Performs best in moderate to high humidity with ventilation
- Media: Mount on cork, bark, or wood; also suitable for open containers
- Temperature: Optimal range is 15–30°C; protect from cold and frost
- Fertiliser: Use diluted tillandsia fertiliser monthly during active growth
Additional Notes:
- Visually similar to T. recurvifolia but differs in flower colour
- Suitable for small-scale displays or terrarium-style setups with airflow
- Offsets readily when mature
- Not toxic to pets
