Tillandsia 'Mystic Trumpet Enigma'
Tillandsia 'Mystic Trumpet Enigma' is a complex hybrid resulting from a cross between Tillandsia albertiana and Tillandsia xiphioides. This cultivated variety is cherished for its vibrant floral display and robust growth habit. The plant forms a symmetrical rosette of firm, tapering leaves that blush red to crimson prior to blooming. Its standout feature is the brilliant trumpet-shaped flowers that emerge successively, creating a bold contrast against the flushed foliage. This hybrid is well-suited to indoor or sheltered outdoor cultivation where strong light and airflow are available.
Distinctive features:
- Bright fuchsia tubular flowers resembling miniature trumpets
- Foliage blushes vividly red before and during blooming
- Leaf form is intermediate—firm and slightly arching, with a glossy surface
- Compact rosette structure allows for easy mounting or container display
- Hybrid vigour makes it faster-growing than many pure species
Care Tips:
- Light: Bright indirect to filtered light; tolerates early morning sun
- Water: Mist 3–4 times per week or soak once weekly; allow full drying
- Humidity: Moderate to high humidity preferred; ensure ample air circulation
- Media: Mount on wood, cork, or wire mesh; no soil required
