Tillandsia pringlei is a striking, xeric species endemic to the arid highlands of central Mexico, where it grows on rocky cliffs and dry slopes at elevations between 1,500 and 2,400 metres. It is characterised by its upright, rigid growth and densely silvered foliage, adapted to intense light and minimal moisture. The leaves are thick and heavily coated in trichomes, helping the plant capture moisture from dew and occasional rainfall. This species produces a tall, simple inflorescence with tubular, reddish-purple flowers. It is slow-growing and particularly suited to bright, dry environments.
Care Tips:
- Light: Requires bright light to full sun; ideal for sunlit windows or outdoor exposure
- Water: Soak or mist once or twice weekly; must dry quickly and completely
- Humidity: Adapts to low humidity; benefits from airflow to prevent moisture buildup
- Media: Mount on stone, cork, or driftwood; avoid potting media
- Temperature: Prefers 18–32°C; can tolerate brief drops if kept dry
- Fertiliser: Use a low-nitrogen, diluted tillandsia fertiliser once a month
