Calathea insignis 'The Rattlesnake Plant'

Calathea crotalifera (insignis)

"The Rattle Snake Plant"

The most stunning of all Calatheas, insignis is very hardy and great in low light so will suited for indoor gardens and terrariums. They are very slow growing and will not require much maintenance so it can be kept small and compact for long periods; insignis will also do exceptionally well in pots in most places indoors.

Water well if kept in pots but sparingly in terrariums, potting mix must be allowed to almost dry between watering's. Keep in some direct sunlight or provide artiticial light. Avoid heaters and drafty positions. Fertilizer should be only used if you would like the plant to grow. Lack of fertilizer will keep plants shorter and more compact. Temperatures above 20c will speed up grown, between 10 and 20c growth will be extremely slow and plants can be pruned to keep compact. This Calathea is hardy but will not survive outdoors in cold climates.

Keep on the dryer side in winter.
